Stamford is one of Britain’s finest stone built market
towns, which retains much of its medieval street pattern.
Stamford has featured in many historical films including
George Eliot’s Middlemarch, and more recently in Jane
Austin’s Pride and Prejudice. The town was on the old
coaching route from London to Edinburgh and so boasts many
fine coaching inns. The town has 11 churches, 30 pubs and 20

Burghley House |

Stamford is also home to Burghley House, regarded by
many as the finest Elizabethan House in England. Burghley
House was built in the 16th century by William Cecil. There
are lots of special events throughout the year including the
internationally famous horse trials. Recently it was used

Rockingham Castle |

Rockingham Castle was built on William the Conquerors
orders. Famously a Royalist stronghold, the castle was
appropriately the setting for the BBC TV series, 'By the
Sword Divided'. Lived in for the past 450 years by the
Watson family, the castle is a fascinating place to visit

Grimsthorpe Castle |

The castle is the centrepiece in this 3,000 acre estate.
The park has a wide variety of habits including over 24
species of butterfly that live in the limestone quarry area.

Woolsthorpe Manor |

Woolsthorpe is a small 17th century manor house and the
birthplace and family home of Sir Isaac Newton. The manor’s
orchard includes a descendant of the famous apple tree. The
